The holidays are over (sigh), but this piece from the Times of London offers a fascinating look at how gunmakers’ and -sellers’ fortunes ebb and flow with Republican and Democratic administrations and world events. A consistent bright spot for the industry, Christmas was especially important last year, as retailers have been suffering lower 2025 sales under what they call the ‘Trump slump.’ Gun sales typically fall during Republican presidencies.
Over the past four years, according to Federal Bureau of Investigation data, Americans bought an estimated 100,000 guns a day during the holidays. On Black Friday 2024, sales reached almost 170,000.
Official numbers of firearm sales for the end of 2025 have yet to be released.
