Last week’s screening of the documentary ‘The Great Divide,’ at Sie FilmCenter, attracted more than 100 gun violence prevention allies for an evening of reflection and conversation. The film is an incisive look at the U.S.’s too-often-forgotten violent history, and how that history continues to haunt us in major ways—including our epidemic of gun violence. Colorado’s fight to pass the Extreme Risk Protection Order Law in 2019 was a major focus of the film.
The film was followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with speakers including Harold Fields of the Denver Black Reparations Council; Catie Fowler of the CO Office of the Attorney General; Eileen McCarron of Ceasefire Legislative Action; and CO Sen. Tom Sullivan. They offered perspectives on the film’s themes and thoughts on Colorado’s gun violence prevention movement going forward.
