Barrel Bill Stalled, Legislative Update

The FMDA “Free Men Don’t Ask,” a popular 3D-Printed ‘ghost gun’ frame that accepts a standard Glock barrel

The Colorado House continues to lay over (delay further debate on, but not outright kill) (SB26-043, Record Keeping & Regulation of Sale of Firearm Barrel. The bill requires firearm barrels to be sold or transferred in person by a federally licensed firearm dealer. The gun barrel bill’s backers say it is an important measure to curb the construction of unserialized ‘ghost guns,’ which can be built to use a commercially manufactured barrel, but opponents consider it an overreach. California has a similar law on the books.

Also still under consideration are bills related to mandatory lethality assessments during domestic violence response, school safety and Safe2Tell instruction requirements, and more requirements for social media platforms.

Other gun bills passed this session, some already signed by Gov. Jared Polis, include requirements for social media companies responding to search warrants, expanding the list of people who may petition for ERPO actions, and a prohibition on 3D printing of firearms and components.
