DENVER, JUNE 21, 2024–Colorado Ceasefire today issued this statement on today’s Rahimi ruling, overturning the US Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals decision invalidating the prohibition of the possession of firearms by people subject to domestic-violence restraining orders:
‘For years, #COCeasefire has worked with the DV prevention community to create and enforce life-saving firearm prohibitions for people who have committed intimate partner violence. We commend the court for this common-sense decision.
‘That said, we stress that this Supreme Court still largely follows the will of the gun lobby, and this case should never have been in question. It remains critical that we all vote our values on #gunviolenceprevention issues.’
