CPR News reported that gun sales are way down in Colorado—the lowest, in fact, since 2014—mirroring national trends and perhaps finally marking an end to the Pandemic buying rush.
In 2025, there were 314,904 approved background checks for firearm purchases, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. CPR says it’s the lowest sales volume since 2014, with sales down 35% since hitting record highs in 2020.
One Lakewood gun shop owner told CPR that he regularly has people come in hoping he’ll buy guns they purchased during the pandemic. They have decided they no longer need them. Nevertheless, a spokesman from the National Shooting Sports Foundation told CPR that sales in April were up slightly from the prior year, “So we’re continuing to see a good, healthy appetite of firearm sales.”
