Evergreen: Community Works to Heal

Many questions remain after the Sept. 10 shootings at Evergreen High School, such as where the shooter obtained the weapon. While there’s been no new word from the Jeffco Sheriff’s Office, the community is beginning the healing process.

Last week, Colorado Ceasefire shared ways you can help, which we will repeat here. Everyone can do something:

You can view a list of victim services resources here.

One of the victims, Matthew Silverstone, is showing signs of improvement but faces a long recovery. Matthew warned other students and actually ended up fighting with the shooter before being shot. You can support a GoFundMe for Matthew’s Medical Trust here. This article from CPR provides a moving video from Matthew’s family. Here’s another list of ways you can help. Expressing your support for Evergreen doesn’t have to be financial: Showing up at a community gathering, expressing solidarity online, and volunteering for an allied organization are all good ways to take action. And don’t forget to reach out to your elected representatives to express your thoughts about how sadly common this has become.
