Reports to Colorado’s Safe2Tell program spiked last month following the shootings at Evergreen High School—good news, the state Attorney General’s Office said.
In September, 3,846 reports were made, about 19% of which were concerns related to school safety, according to Attorney General Phil Weiser, whose office monitors such reports. Bullying concerns were included in 13.4% of the reports, and mental health was cited in 12.8% of the reports, the office said.
“Safe2Tell provides an opportunity to take action because every report represents someone choosing to protect their community and look out for one another,” Weiser said in a statement. “That’s exactly the kind of vigilance we need to keep schools safe.”
To make a Safe2Tell report, individuals can call 1-877-542-7233 24 hours a day. Reports also can be made at Safe2Tell.org, by texting S2TCO to 738477, or through the Safe2Tell mobile app.
