March For Our Lives
March For Our Lives has launched the #ParklandPam campaign, calling out U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi for abandoning the promises she made after the 2018 shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.
At the time, as the state’s Attorney General, Bondi made a range of promises to work for gun violence prevention, including supporting Florida’s Gun Violence Restraining Order (red flag law); raising the minimum age for assault rifle purchases to 21; preventing gun trafficking; and prioritizing comprehensive gun safety measures.
Since taking her current office, MFOL says, Bondi has not just broken those promises, but become one of the gun lobby’s chief advocates. She has refused to support national red flag laws despite previously endorsing them; effectively legalized machine guns by refusing to regulate forced reset triggers; slashed millions of dollars in funding for Community Violence Intervention programs; created a ‘Guns Everywhere’ “Task Force” to do the gun lobby’s bidding; and proposes gutting the bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’s ability to oversee the gun industry. Guns Down America has also published a lengthy report on Bondi’s career, including a little-reported lawsuit for stealing a dog from Hurricane Katrina survivors (PDF).
