Last month, the VPC released its annual analysis of state-by-state gun death using new data from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As in previous years, the states with the highest rates of gun death are also the states with the weakest gun laws.
Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, New Mexico and Alaska take the top five spots. All are states the VPC says combine weak gun laws with high rates of gun ownership. Conversely, the data show that states with the lowest gun death rates have stronger gun laws and lower rates of gun ownership. Colorado Ranked #20.
