As a Colorado Ceasefire supporter, you already know about our outstanding record of common-sense gun law reform: Since 2000, we have fought the gun lobby, helping pass or strengthen more than 30 gun violence prevention laws, ranging from background checks to magazine limits to safe storage.
But our legislative advocacy is just the beginning–what good are gun laws if the public isn’t aware of them, or doesn’t know how to take advantage of them? That’s why we created Colorado Ceasefire Outreach, with the mission to build awareness among Coloradans about gun violence prevention, show people how they can make a difference in their own communities, and–most importantly–how to use the protections gun violence prevention laws offer all of us.
Our outreach work gets us face-to-face with people in churches, schools, and other community organizations to carry the message: Not anti-gun, but anti-gun violence. We meet people where they are culturally and politically with information that helps keep them safe.
We offer training on safe firearm storage, how to spot the warning signs of gun violence before it happens, and Extreme Risk Protection Orders to get guns out of the hands of people who may pose a danger to themselves or others. We use music, video, and first-hand accounts by gun violence survivors to help people think about what THEY can do to make themselves and their families and communities safer.
But we also do something more–we inspire.
Luna Saldana Lopez came to Colorado Ceasefire as an intern just this past spring. A high-school junior, she was interested in the mission of gun violence prevention but didn’t know how to get started. Colorado Ceasefire offered her (and her fellow interns) the opportunity to get involved in the movement: creating outreach materials, doing research, and–for Luna–even testifying in favor of legislation at the State Capitol.
Now a senior, Luna has built on her work at Ceasefire and moved up to the national level–by parlaying her work with us into a seat on Brady’s Teen Executive Council. Way to go, Luna! We can’t wait to see what she, and all the other young leaders we work with, will do next.
Personally meeting hundreds of people a year with critical gun safety information–and helping find the movement’s next generation of leaders–takes time and resources. We have a formula that works, and we run a lean operation, but we can’t grow our outreach without your help. Would you consider a tax-deductible donation to Colorado Ceasefire Outreach today?
Thank you so much for sharing our commitment to keeping Coloradans safe where they live, work, and play. We couldn’t do it without you.
