2023 Legislative Session Brought New Gun Safety Laws To Colorado

Boulder, Colo; May 16, 2023 | Morning Magazine | KGNU FM Public Radio | News Director Shannon Young interviews Eileen McCarron, Colorado Ceasefire Legislative Action board president (click here to listen!)

Lawmakers passed, and Governor Jared Polis signed into law, at least four major pieces of gun safety legislation this session. New laws include raising the minimum age to buy a firearm to 21 [years of age], and an Extreme Risk Protection Order, or “Red Flag,” law, that expands those who can petition to keep guns from the hands of those deemed a risk to themselves or others.

News Director Shannon Young spoke with Eileen McCarron of Colorado Ceasefire of what did—and did not—make it through the legislature this session.
