Last week in Scottsbluff, a dog ‘accidentally’ shot a bystander with a shotgun that was left, loaded, unsecured, and safety off, on the seat of a truck when its owner stepped into a convenience store.
Such incidents happen with surprising frequency—in fact, according to our friends at Armed With Reason, it happens more often than ‘good guys with guns’ actually stop shooters. Citing data from the Gun Violence Archive and the FBI, the tally from 2014-2024 (the last year FBI data is available) is 22 shootings by dogs, 15 active shooters stopped by ‘good guys.’
We’ll keep the numbers updated. Stay tuned!
