Tennessee Man Shot by Dog in ‘Freak Accident’

Memphis police say a man who was lying in bed with his girlfriend and a loaded handgun was shot when his pit bull jumped up onto the bed.

Jerald Kirkwood told police that he was lying in bed with a female friend just after 4 am when his dog, Oreo, jumped up onto the mattress. The dog’s paw became caught in the gun’s trigger guard and the weapon discharged, grazing Kirkwood in the thigh. Police said that the victim’s friend left the scene after the shooting, taking the gun with her.

A friend of Kirkwood called the incident a ‘freak accident,’ and insisted that Oreo is a very friendly dog. No charges have been announced.
