‘Fierce urgency’ needed to prevent gun violence, House minority leader tells Boulder audience

Colorado Newsline, August 22, 2023 – Hakeem Jeffries joins Rep. Joe Neguse, local advocates to discuss root causes of gun violence and legislative successes.

We were pleased to join a community violence prevention discussion hosted by Rep. Joe Neguse and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. In the words of Hakeem Jeffries, “fierce urgency” is needed to prevent gun violence.

During the event, President of Colorado Ceasefire Legislative Action Eileen McCarron commented, “Colorado has made a lot of progress on gun laws in the last eleven years, but there is still much more to do. Unfortunately, the path to greater public safety is made more difficult by a U.S. Supreme Court unwilling and unable to address modern weaponry and modern gun violence problems.”
