The FMDA (Free Men Don’t Ask) 3D-printed gun
A federal judge in Texas last week ruled that a regulation targeting ‘ghost guns’ is unconstitutional, even after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld it last year.
The regulation requires that firearms kits and parts, including partially complete frames or receivers, be marked with serial numbers. Sellers must also obtain licenses and conduct background checks on purchasers, as they would with commercially made firearms.
The Supreme Court overturned a ruling on the same issue by the same judge, U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor in Fort Worth, last year.
Everytown Law denounced the ruling, calling it “egregiously wrong” and “an outlier decision from an extreme lower court judge.”
O’Connor has become a favorite of conservative lawyers, who often ‘forum shop’ by strategically filing in his district because of his reliable rulings against Democratic policies and for Republican ones. In the past, he has ruled against the Gun Control Act of 1968; Title IX protections for transgender college students; the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare); The federal definition of ‘family’ in the Family Medical Leave Act; and mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations for the military.
