Colorado Ceasefire, Colorado’s longest-running grassroots gun violence prevention organization, released the following statement after a weekend marred by multiple instances of gun violence in Colorado. Two people were killed in separate shootings in Green Valley Ranch on Friday evening and Globeville on Saturday morning. Also on Saturday, a man was killed in a shooting in Colorado Springs. Sunday morning, one person was left dead and three wounded in separate shootings in the East Colfax and Congress Park neighborhoods of Denver. And Sunday night, one person was killed and at least eight injured in a shooting at a southeast Denver nightclub.
“Our thoughts are with the victims of these shootings and their families. We fervently hope for the swift and full recoveries of those who were injured and traumatized by these events,” said Colorado Ceasefire Executive Director Laney Sheffel. “On a summer weekend as always, Coloradans should be able to go about their lives without facing the threat of senseless, deadly gun violence. Most Americans—including the large majority of gun owners—agree that it remains too easy for the wrong people to gain access to firearms, and Colorado Ceasefire vows to continue working to keep Coloradans safer where they live, work, learn and play.”
