Denver, Colorado Gun Homicides Sharply Down, Data Show

Gun homicides in both Denver and statewide are strongly down for 2025, according to data extracted from the Gun Violence Archive.

Statewide, gun homicides have fallen back to their pre-pandemic levels, and Denver gun homicides are just over a third of their pre-pandemic numbers. Denver also saw a sharp decrease in homicides involving teens and children, falling from 9 in 2024 to 4 in 2025.

The Gun Violence Archive draws its numbers from law enforcement and news reports of homicides and is not considered definitive, but strongly correlates with ‘official’ numbers.

Still troubling is the number of Domestic Violence fatal incidents in our state: 53 deaths, with 17 in murder-suicides, and 35 homicides. Twenty percent of gun homicides statewide were domestic violence related. Experts say domestic violence deaths strongly correlate with the presence of guns in troubled homes.
