Legislature: Hi-Cap Bill Keeps Moving

SB25-003, Semi-automatic Firearms & Rapid-Fire Devices, passed the House Judiciary committee Tuesday and is headed to the House Finance Committee. The vote, along party lines, was 7-4.

SB25-003 seeks to ban the sale of some semi-automatic weapons with detachable magazines. Since its introduction, the bill  has been amended multiple times, including permits to purchase such weapons for people who take an additional gun safety training course. In yesterday’s hearing an amendment was made moving the permit-to-purchase administration to Colorado Parks and Wildlife instead of county sheriffs, some of whom balked at what they said is a violation of second amendment rights. Because of the anticipated cost of issuing these permits, the bill must now go to House Finance, then Appropriations.

Several firearms bills are still pending, and we need you to speak out to help prevent gun violence! You can check the latest status of all this session’s gun-related bills on the Ceasefire website, and find your legislator here.
