Colorado Ranks 20th in the Nation on Gun Deaths

A new analysis by States United to Prevent Gun Violence, of which Colorado Ceasefire is a member group, finds that Colorado ranks 20th among states in the rate of gun deaths.

The report also found that while suicides comprise the largest portion of Colorado’s gun deaths, gun homicides rose 52 percent over a ten year period in the state.

Summary:

• Colorado’s gun death rate has been growing over the last 10 years, much more rapidly than the country as a whole.

• Colorado ranks 20th in the ranking for the highest rate of gun deaths, all other states with higher fatality rates are southern and western states, with Mississippi having the highest.

• Although suicides comprise the largest portion (77%) of Colorado’s gun deaths, homicides are rising more rapidly (52% over the 10-year period).

The report also looks at data with a gender, race, and age breakdown.
